Dr. David Plante

Dr. David Plante received his DVM degree from Cornell University in 1985.  Following graduation he worked in Syracuse, NY at a private practice and at an emergency clinic.  In 1987, he returned to Watertown to build the North Country Veterinary Clinic. In 2002, he built North Country Animal Health Center which currently employs 7 veterinarians, and 27 support staff. Dr. Plante and his staff provide care to small animals, birds, exotic pets, and wildlife.  He has been involved in several statewide wildlife and conservation issues and founded the Fragile Wilderness Symposium, NYS's largest indoor wildlife and conservation exposition. Dr. Plante has been intimately involved in the renovation and revitalization of the Thompson Park Zoo and has served 4 terms as Chairman. Dr. Plante is the primary veterinarian at the Thompson Park Zoo. He lives in Watertown with his wife, Dr. Teresa Dewey and their two daughters. He enjoys whitewater kayaking and wilderness expeditions.  Dr. Plante has led several whitewater canoe expeditions over the past decade across the Canadian Artic.


Dr. Teresa Dewey

Dr. Teresa Dewey received her DVM from Cornell University in 1985. She practiced small animal and emergency medicine and surgery in Syracuse before joining her husband, Dr. David Plante at the North Country Veterinary Clinic, where she practiced for 15 years. Dr. Dewey and Dr. Plante opened the North Country Animal Health Center in 2002. Dr. Dewey has been active in local veterinary organizations in both Syracuse and Watertown. For several years she authored a popular column in the Watertown Daily Times called "Pet Peeves." Her professional interest is in surgery, with an emphasis on orthopedics. Her personal interests include Tae Kwon Do, dog training, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, and camping. She lives in Watertown with her husband and daughters.


Dr. Lara McMahon

Dr. Lara McMahon received her undergraduate degree in biology from Siena College and then her DVM from Michigan State University in 1999. Shortly after graduation she began practicing veterinary medicine at North Country Animal Health Center. She has a special interest in ultrasound, as well as exotic animal medicine. Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys playing soccer, camping and hiking in the Adirondacks, boating on Lake Ontario and skiing. She resides in Sackets Harbor where she and her husband, sons, their dog, a guinea pig and two cats.


Dr. Jennifer Risser

Dr. Jennifer Risser, originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, came to North Country Animal Health Center in November of 2002. She received a BS at Emory University in Atlanta, GA and received her DVM from Ross University.  She completed her clinical training at Louisiana State University. Her professional interests include dentistry, surgery, particularly soft tissue, and internal medicine. She lives in Sackets Harbor with her cat and three dogs; Allie, a Boston Terrier, Stone, a Pug, and Pigeon, the three legged wonder dog. 


Dr. Chris Gordon
 

Dr. Chris Gordon grew up in Endicott, NY.  She is a 2003 graduate of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.  After veterinary school, she completed a large animal medicine and surgery internship at Ontario Veterinary College.  For the past few years, she has worked at a mixed animal practice on the Eastern Shore of Maryland but is returning to Upstate New York because she missed the snow.  Her professional interests include emergency care, neonatology, and exotic animal medicine.  Outside of work, Chris enjoys music, travel, and taking long walks with her husband and son, and dog (Terra).  In addition to her dogs, her menagerie includes 2 cats (Huey and Matthew), and 2 birds (Valentine and Edward). 




Dr. Loren Hutt 

Dr. Loren Hutt grew up in Philadelphia, PA. She received her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College in '04 and her DVM from Oklahoma State University in '10. She lives in Syracuse with her husband, 2 dogs and a cat. Her interests include wellness medicine, dermatology & surgery. For fun, she enjoys snowboarding, running & traveling.

 

 

Dr. Shannon Vicario

 

 Dr. Vicario grew up in Cicero, NY.  She received a BS in Biology and a Minor in Studio Art from Binghamton University in 2007 and her DVM from Cornell University in 2012.  She lives in Watertown, NY with her 2 parrots and 2 tortoises. Her professional interests include exotic animal medicine, surgery and dentistry.  During her free time she enjoys drawing, painting, hiking and traveling.
